MARAM SULTAN
Personal Advocacy Statement
Currently I am a 3rd year undergraduate on the 3D Design: Interior Design programme at Salford University. During this course I experienced working with technical and communication tools, which have enabled me to gain skills such as time management, teamwork and computer software skills. I believe this placement would be of high significant importance to me as well as provide me with a direct measure of level of practice and the scale of progress I need to make during my final year of undergraduate study.
During the first 2 years of my Undergraduate Bachelors degree, I was introduced to core practices of interior design. These include research and concept designs, project analysis; development of designs and proposal specifications, alongside constructing miniature models, such as the 1:50 scaled cardboard models. In addition to the miniatures that were constructed, not only using different scales, but also materials including wood, aluminum and plastic. I am able to plan, organise and monitor the progress of project activity and have gone through open and supportive teamwork practices. Upon completing a placement at your company, I will be highly motivated to evaluate this personal progress in terms of the real challenges & demands of professional practice.
I have made a lot of research about different companies such as D&A architecture and interiors, Saif Design, Towell and Talati, and have identified an impressive list of interior design firms in Oman. As an undergraduate interior designer I was highly inspired after looking at the website galleries, clients evaluations and the various projects different companies have done. Of particular interest are the projects that involve the use of various computers software’s. This is due to the fact that as an individual, I see myself working confidently and efficiently with computer software’s. I am fascinated with all aspects of this career, including shapes, experimental qualities, space and narrative of brands, all of which are vital parts of this career.
I am an organised person, which is clearly reflected in my up-to-date portfolio. This portfolio illustrates the development of my understanding and insights in the interior design field, from photographs and client boards to researching and presenting. This portfolio includes work that I have done during my first and second year of University. It is all been done with different kinds of computer software’s, proving that I am capable of working with different software’s that require different levels of input and effort. This is portrayed specifically on pages 3-7, 9-11 and 15-17 of my portfolio. The use of Gantt Charts has enabled me to manage my time, hence easing my creative directions and effective management of activities; thus I am able to undertake efficient projects that your company may offer me.
I am a highly motivated individual who enjoys new challenges that are strongly related to innovation and the use of new computer software. Therefore, I am keen and enthusiastic to absorb and undertake any challenges that require responsibilities at your company. I have learnt to be flexible not only in time commitments but also the way I approach my work. I have gained many skills including communicating effectively with a diversified group of people, which was illustrated through peer assessments and feedback during group work. I am a quick learner and I am always looking for ways of developing new skills, through the diverse projects handled, which included the use of various materials, software’s and research.
I am available for interview at your convenience and look forward to hearing from you soon.
Yours sincerely,
Maram Sultan
